About the Project

In many low-income communities, families with limited resources often encourage girls to leave school early to tend to family responsibilities due to gendered labour roles. 30% of countries worldwide are still fighting for gender parity in primary school, leaving more women than men illiterate and getting married before adulthood. Focusing on educating girls has proven to be an effective way to improve the quality of life for future generations.

My Role

In promotion of Opportunity’s work and advocacy for girls’ education, I designed a fundraising campaign to bring attention to this issue, including a print ad for the Walrus magazine, email appeals, social media posts, and a blog posts.

To the left is a print ad that I designed Walrus magazine’s 2019 Back to School issue.

I designed this spread for the a fall issue of the Walrus magazine in 2021.

Print Ads for the Walrus

Each year, Opportunity International Canada made use of their donated advertising space in the Walrus magazine to increase awareness for their mission to empower girls in education. As a member of the marketing and creative team directing these advertisements from 2018 to 2021, I contributed to writing copy and designed each ad.

To the right is the magazine ad that I created for the November 2018 issue of the Walrus magazine.

In order to support this campaign throughout the year, I used awareness days such as the Day of Education to bring attention to Opportunity’s work and impact.

Blog Article

I wrote an article for the Opportunity International Canada website to support the campaign by sharing research and some stories of the girls benefitting from Opportunity’s EduFinance programs.
